Our Reading Classrooms
In our classroom libraries we try to have over 500 books. To start the year, the library is organized into three levels. The levels are based on Fontus and Poinell's guided reading levels. In our library we have combined the levels to best reasch the needs of all third graders. The levels are:Level 1: Guided Reading A - L Level 2: M - N Level 3: O - Q A fourth level will be added mid-year. Each level contains about 100 books, many of which are part of a series. The purpose of starting the year with a leveled library is to help the students recognize the books that are perfect fit for their reading needs.

Book Reviews: Below are reviews and links for some of the books in our library. The color of the book title indicates its level. Arthur and the Poetry Contest by Marc Brown Reviewed by H.P.S
I liked this book because it showed the poems the kids in the book wrote. I also liked it because it described how the kids were feeling when the other kids read their poem. I liked Buster's poem the best because it reminded me about a paper I had to do in class. Many of the poems made me laugh, and that's why I liked this book.
The Halloween Goblin Reviewed by E.T.
I loved the book because I love magic and it has magic in it. There are also a lot of choices in the book. Whether something will happen or not, and you have to read to find out! They also have a few risks and usually they are most likely to get caught. I also like this book because some parts can get kind of scary. I think it is pretty cool to have a friend Pixie too!
The Paint Brush Kid Reviewed by D.M.L. I liked this book because it reflected on The Chalk Box Kid and it had a person that told you about him. Another thing I liked was how they showed the pictures of what the house looked like in the story. The final thing I liked was when they told you a story inside the story.
